Four X Doctor Jeep TJ Storage Box

This box is made of steel with 2 lockable doors for top access and is open in the rear for tailgate access. It’s easily removable and folds for storage.

I received mine via UPS and was very surprised to see that it made it in one piece. Mike Duncan told me he was having problems shipping them and was trying out a new box. I’ve got to say that it worked! Damn box says "MIRROR" on it, very clever Mike!

So now down to the install. I’ve had my rear seat out for a couple of years now but never completely removed all the seat brackets. So this is were my install starts.

In this picture you can see the two side pieces and hardware in the back of my jeep ready to install.

Here’s the hardware that comes with it. The unpainted brackets I threw a coat of paint on before I installed them.

First remove the front brackets for the rear seat. These use a ½ socket.

Then remove the rear brackets for the rear seat. These use a T40 torx.

Now you have the brackets off and it’s time to install the side panels.

First I used a center punch to line up the new hole in the carpet. You will reuse the bolt you removed from the bracket to install the side panel. I just reamed the hole punch through the carpet to make the hole. This mounts to the top hole of the bracket.

Loosely tighten down the bolt. You will come back later and tighten it. Repeat this for the other side panel. I installed the other bolt in the lower hole to seal it. This one you can tighten down.

Now comes the top section. Here are a couple of shots of it folded and slightly unfolded to show the piano hinge used.

I then took the top section, placed it on top of the side panels and lined it up.

It starts to really take shape now. Once you get holes lined up you can start to loosely install the Stainless steel Phillips head screws and lock washers. I found this easier to do by starting with the side panels then moving to the front panel.

Once you’ve gotten all the screws started you can go back and tighten them down. Now is the time to tighten the Torx bolt on the side panels.

The front panel get’s held down using the two supplied brackets that have only one hole in them. Reuse the bolt removed from the front bracket. Again I used the center punch to make the hole in the carpet and line up with the factory hole.

It’s all been easy up to this point. Now it’s time to get dirty! Get out your drill, eye protection, oil and 5/16th drill bit.

Installing the rear bracket.

rear.jpg (161811 bytes) Start by installing the threaded end to the top section so you sandwich the top section between the bracket and the head of the bolt.
rear1.jpg (199170 bytes) Then using the 5/16 drill bit drill a hole that lines up with the through hole at the bottom of the bracket into the tub of the jeep. Do this on both sides. Insert the supplied bolt and flat washer into the hole. Go find someone to help you and put on the eye protection.
rear2.jpg (198304 bytes) Have your friend hold the bolt inside the jeep with a ½ socket. Gather the large fender washer, nyloc nut and a ½ wrench. Crawl under the jeep and work the rubber protection from under the jeep loose so you can get your hand up to the backside of the bolt. Watch out for falling rocks!

Tighten down both sides and push the rubber protection back in place. Step back and admire the work you’ve done.

I had an old lightweight wooden tool box laying around that was the perfect height to install under the Storage box. This also adds some strength to the Storage box in the rear.
