Skid Row Engine skid plate

skidrow.gif (5132 bytes)

From what I've read on the Web, the Skid Row TellicoTough Engine Skid Plate is one of the best on the market.   Here are some pictures and a description of the installation.   (Remember that two women are doing the install!)
First we had to remove the lower control arm bolt on the passenger side and re-install it so that the nut was on the inside.  You leave the jeep on level ground to do this.  Hang on to the nut, you will re-install it later.
Then you put the Jeep up on Jack stands if you want, we didn't.  I slid under the engine on my back (feet sticking out the front) and found the motor mount on the driver's side.  Took the cool T-shaped plate with integral nuts, aligned it, and folded back the tap to hold it in place.
Then you take the mounting bracket and bolt it into place.  Tighten this up all the way at this time.  This part done...easy!
Now you take the skid plate and loosely attach the curved bracket to it.  There are integral nuts on the plate for this bracket.  We then took a piece on plywood and put it on "Jackie", then put the skid plate on the plywood.  Slide this under the Jeep and into position, put the curved bracket and place it on the forward lip of the factory transfer case skid plate.  Then move the plate and slide the hole on the passenger side of the plate on the bolt sticking out of the lower control arm.  Loosely attach the control arm nut to hold the plate in place.
Then you take the strut rod and attach it between the mounting plate on the motor mount and the hole on the front drivers side of the skid plate.  Now the skid is in position!  Tighten all the hardware!
The hardest part of this installation:  getting the bolt loose and then re-tightening it back to the factory recommended torque of 130 foot pounds on the lower control arm.
Here's a picture of the skid plate from the passenger side at the lower control arm.
Another view on the passenger side where the transfer skid plate and the skid row plate attach.

And the last, from the front looking back at the plate and the strut rod.
This Skid Row Engine Skid Plate covers the oil pan and everything back to the factory transfer case skid.  You can't beat it!  Consider one if you are planning to do any real off-roading!
