Wilderness Rack Installation
Now that poor 'Old Blue' was gone (1980 Toyota Pick-up, killed when some
19 year old pulled out in front of me), I went searching the WEB looking for a rack that
would stand-up to the abuse I would give it. I found the strength I needed with the
Wilderness Jeep Expedition Rack from Garvin
Industries. |
| I needed it fast for the Carrizo Badlands trip,
so I found that I could order it from Off Road
Warehouse here in San Diego and get it in 2 days. They wanted 150.00 bucks to install
it, so I decided to try it myself with the help of my roommate. It took the two of
us 7 hours to install it, we did take our time being the two virgos that we are. It
was very easy with complete instructions. |

|
The rack installs on the front using the
existing windshield bracket holes. No drilling needed at this
end...easy. |
 |
The backend needs 4 holes drilled on each
side of the tailgate, 2 for the top bracket (see thumbnail), and 2 for the bottom bracket
(I have to get a better picture of this for you). |
The bottom bracket mounts
between the rear body mounts and the body, and is held in place with 4 bolts (2 of the 4
that you drilled). I would have to say that the hardest part of the installation
was finding all the body mounts to loosen, being that I have never been under a Jeep
before. |
| I've got to add that this rack was the best investment
I've made to my Jeep. We have loaded that rack with all sorts of things, used it to
stand on when hanging Christmas lights on the tree out on the street. You name it,
it's just wonderful! |
